Sri Padhaya (Adams Peak)



Sri padhaya is the fourth highest mountain in Sri Lanka and height is 2250m. Location is 6.8096641, 80.4906334 and located in Sabaragamuwa District. It is a one of best tourist attraction places in Sri Lanka and locally it has huge religious value because there is a sacred footprint, a 1.8 m (5 ft 11 in) rock formation near the summit, which in Buddhist tradition is held to be the footprint of the Lord Buddha.

Mainly there are three routes to go to top of the mountain 

  1. HattonNallathanniya road (Famous Route)
  2. Palabaddala road
  3. KuruwitaErathna road (longest Path)
Hatton Nallathanniya Route

Season
December to May (February & March will be the best)
Starting Point
Colombo
Route
Colombo > Hatton > Nallathanniya > Sri Padhaya (Adam’s Peak)
Description
Colombo to Hatton (by train – US $ 1.2 / by bus – US $ 1.5)

Hatton to Nallathanniya (by bus – US $ .5 / Private Van – US $ 10.5 onwards)
(Good interconnectivity between bus & train in the season)


Then you should walk on the path

Important
It is better you can bring your food and other important things from Colombo, Hatton or your starting point. The cost of stuffs is higher in Sri Padha.

Don’t dump any polythene or plastic stuff

Bring enough water, Don’t try to fill water from taps on the path, water is polluted in season.

Be careful from beggars.


Don’t bring alcohol (punishable offence)


Return Trip Options
  • Back to Hatton and take a bus to Colombo by bus or train
  • Back to Maskeliya and take a bus to Colombo (Route No - 23)







Palabaddala Route


Season
December to May (February & March will be the best)
Starting Point
Colombo
Route
Colombo > Ratnapura > Palabaddala > Sri Padhaya (Adam’s Peak)
Description
Colombo to Ratnapura ( Route No - 122, 99) (by bus – US $ 1)

Ratnapura to Palabaddala (by bus – US $ .5 / Private Van – US $ 20 onwards)
(inefficiency bus service, most probably you can take tuk tuk but price would be bit higher)


Then you should walk on the path

Important
It is better you can bring your food and other important things from Colombo, Ratnapura. Few shops are on the path.

You should walk in the forest. Bring some necessary things for insects and leeches

Don’t dump any polythene or plastic stuff

Bring enough water. But there are natural water  streams

Don’t go beyond the path. Leopards and porcupines are there.


Don’t bring alcohol (punishable offence)














Kuruwita Erathna Route

Colombo
Route
Colombo > Kuruwita > Eratna > Sri Padhaya (Adam’s Peak)
Description
Colombo to Kuruwita (Roue No – 122) (by bus – US $ 1)

Kuruwita to Eratna (Adavikanda)
(inefficiency bus service to Erathna, So you can take tuk tuk but price would be bit higher US $ 6-8)


Then you should walk on the path

It is better you can bring your food and other important things from Colombo, Kuruwita. Few shops are on the path.

You should walk in the forest. Bring some necessary things for insects and leeches

Don’t dump any polythene or plastic stuff

Bring enough water. But there are natural water  streams

Don’t go beyond the path. Leopards and porcupines are there.

Don’t bring alcohol (punishable offence)

You should cross a small river (around 15-20m)


It’s lonely path, so be careful.
